Bassist Lucy Clifford premiers her debut album ‘Between Spaces Of Knowing’ at the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz festival, with an instrumental offering of jazz and improvised music, anchored in collective energy and shedding light on the often-unsung instrument, the electric bass.

Lucy Clifford is a bassist and composer hailing from Sydney’s south coast. She has worked as a performing and recording musician across Australia and the USA for the last 10 years. As an active and invested member of the Australian music community, Lucy has performed alongside Kate Ceberano, Katie Noonan, Urthboy and Emily Wurramara. Internationally, she has performed, toured and recorded with the likes of many Grammy winning artists and notable ensembles, some of which include Nella, Mariza, Javier Limon, Maher Beauroy, and Alita Moses among others. She was the recipient of the 2022 Jann Rutherford Memorial Award and is the founder of Sisters Of Sound, a music education collective for young women. Her debut album ‘Between Spaces Of Knowing’ is out now.

The album intertwines lyrical soundscapes colliding with infectious grooves and draws inspiration from life’s in-between moments of contemplation and reflection, where we meet our real selves. This performance will feature some of Melbourne’s most notable artists in improvised music, alongside drummer Jessie Cox (Switzerland/USA) in a melding of collaborative energy, translating into an exhilarating experience.
