About the show

Kana Fuefuki - Shinobue/Shakuhachi

Hiroe Sekine - Piano

Brent Nussey - Bass

Guest: Terumi Ohira - Koto

Kana Fuefuki, a multi-flutist who plays a variety of air reed instruments including flute, shinobue, ocarina, recorder, and tin whistle, makes her first appearance at Oh!Jazz.

She specializes in jazz, Latin, and improvisation, and her performance is one-of-a-kind as she plays a wide variety of instruments.

She began playing piano at age 3, clarinet in elementary school, and flute in junior high school. While in college, she was fascinated by improvised music and studied jazz theory, African rhythms, gamelan, and traditional Japanese music.

She has mastered jazz flute, classical flute, and shinobue (bamboo flute) under different masters, and is active in a variety of fields including TV and stage music.

This time, she will be performing with Terumi Ohira, a koto player, as a guest in a quartet with Hiroe Sekine on piano and Brent Nussey on bass.

The quartet will perform not only jazz standards, but also covers that appeal to music fans, as well as Japanese folk songs, and a variety of other musical arrangements that will be colorfully performed on the traditional Japanese instrument. Expectations are high for this entertaining and uniquely Japanese shinobue jazz.
