Invisible Painters is the result of research in which Ferdinando Romano explores new concepts, both from a compositional and sonic point of view. In addition to acoustic instruments, there is an extensive use of synthesizers, samples and environmental recordings, broadening the sound palette . Synths and some software are sometimes debut compendiums for a contrapuntal writing that insists on multiple overlapping lines, both melodically (making multiple tones or series of notes coexist) and rhythmically (polymetrically and polyrhythmically). From an ideal point of view, the image of the "invisible painters" represents the gesture of artistic creation, the unconscious and instinctive impulse generated by the invisible hand and brush with which the musician creates extemporaneously. The improvisations of four of the most gifted and interesting instrumentalists of the new generation of European jazz unfold around this facility.
