Álvaro Torres

 
  • Composer and pianist Álvaro Torres has interest in dialogs and possibilities between jazz and free improvisation. His work has deep roots in western classical music, but always maintains a particular focus on building unique improvisational aesthetic.

    Born in Madrid in 1993, he graduated from Conservatori del Liceu in 2016. Since then he’s been focused on performing and composing his own projects and also as a sideman, playing more than 150 concerts over the last two years. Collaborations with different groups have taken him to Spain, France, United Kingdom,

    Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Nepal, Colombia and United States.

    Ornette Coleman, Johannes Brahms and Paul Bley are some of his influences, but one can already recognize a distinct voice in his own compositions and projects.

    Álvaro has participated in the recording of 5 albums. His first work as leader “Specious Present” was released in 2019 by Fresh Sound New Talent record label. He has also collaborated with an extensive list of musicians: Mark Holub, Jürg Wickihalder,

    Masa Kamaguchi, Kresten Osgood, Antonio Arnedo, Cesar Joaniquet, Bill Mchenry, Eric Surmenian, Ivo Sans, Oriol Roca, Don Malfon, James Kitchman, Ines Kolleritsch, Gianni Gagliardi y Félix Rossy, among others.
